Discreet Logic today announced that FOX SPORTS has chosen Discreet
Logic's frost* broadcast graphics system and Vertigo Computer
Solution's Producer external control applications as the graphics
platform for the FOX NFL SUNDAY show. FOX SPORTS will use Discreet
Logic's frost* for the 1998/99 season pre-game, game break,
half time, and post game shows from their Los Angeles studio.
frost* will be used to create the full-screen score boards and
over-the-shoulder graphics that utilize frost's real-time 3D
animation and programmable DVE capabilities.
frost* is integrated into FOX's Central Scoring System by Vertigo's
Producer application. The run-time control of the on-air and
preview frost* systems is provided by a new Producer product
called the Playout Manager. Playout Manager is Windows' based
graphical application that also allows the technical director
to preview, change, re-order or transition to any graphic in
the playout stack.
For the second time in the last three years FOX NFL SUNDAY
received the Emmy Award for Best Studio Show and the NFL on
FOX was recognized with an Emmy Award for its achievement in
the production category of Best Graphic Design.
John Spencer, director of broadcast at Discreet
Logic, explained, "We are very proud that FOX, a visible
leader in sports coverage and graphics, has selected frost*
for such a highly-rated program. This helps to validate our
fundamental belief that open computer platforms are ready to
replace traditional broadcast character generator and DVE devices."
Spencer continued, "FOX SPORTS has pushed frost*'s
performance and image quality to a new level which directly
benefits all our customers. FOX is also helping to refine the
workflow between our advanced systems editing, effects and broadcast
products in preparation for HDTV."
