Canopus Releases DVRaptor - the Low-Cost Complete DV Camcorder Editor That Devours the Competition

First Software DV Editing Card to Provide Full-Screen, Full-Motion Video Preview and Seamless Batch Capture

SAN JOSE, Calif., - Canopus Corporation fills out its line of nonlinear DV editing solutions with the introduction of DVRaptor, the first DV editing card to provide full-screen, full-motion video preview and seamless batch capture. DVRaptor is a DV and i.LINK PCI card with a high performance software DV CODEC. The DVRaptor offers a low cost solution for video enthusiasts and multimedia professionals who want to get the most from their DV cameras and decks.

Exclusive Video Overlay Provides the Look and Feel of a Hardware CODEC Solution
DVRaptor lets users easily capture digital video and still images from DV camcorders directly to the hard disk. Users can capture, edit, and output without any loss in video quality. DVRaptor is the only software CODEC card capable of real-time preview using the hardware CODEC of the DV camera. Video can be monitored in real-time while it is being captured or recorded through the i.LINK. The video can also be previewed simultaneously on a video monitor.

Second Generation PCI and 1394 Interfaces Deliver Rock-Steady Compatibility
DVRaptor reflects the strong engineering and product stability and reliability found in Canopus' professional level video product, DVRex-M1. A key feature found in the DVRex which has been incorporated into the DVRaptor is the ability to capture up to 180 minutes of video into one .AVI file, overcoming the 2GB file limit of .AVI.

"With DVRaptor, low-cost doesn't mean low-functionality," said Hiro Yamada, Canopus president and CEO. "Features such as hardware overlay, which delivers full-screen, full-motion, real-time preview, give users a high-end editing experience with an entry-level product. No other product in this category comes close to delivering this high level of functionality."

Unique Canopus Software Improves Productivity and Ease-of-Use
Other features from DVRex brought to the DVRaptor include advanced DV deck control, which lets users control the DV deck directly from the PC. Features in Raptor Video software include seamless and batch capture, jog and shuttle controls when using a Microsoft Intellimouse, and support for DV and DVCAM. Raptor Navigator software uses advanced scene detection to automatically catalog video content from tapes. Catalogs can be arranged and used in batch capture. Raptor Video software allows users to seamlessly capture to multiple hard disks, capture still images with motion filtering, and perform simple cut/paste editing functions, forgoing the time consuming rendering process.

DVRaptor will be available November 2nd for a suggested retail price of $649 and includes Canopus Raptor Video and Raptor Navigator software, and full version of Ulead MediaStudio Pro 5.0. System requirements include a Pentium 200 MMX or above, Windows 95, 98 or NT, 32MB RAM, a video rated hard drive, and a VGA card that supports hardware DirectDraw overlay.
