Corel VideoStudio Pro X3

Packed with features that set it apart from the others in its class

Editing
Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 is laid out in such a way that the most common used tools are readily available and not buried behind a pull down menu. The interface uses just enough amount of color, and the dark color scheme makes things easier to see, in my opinion.

RotoSketch
One of the new effects in VideoStudio Pro X3 is RotoSketch. This effect enables you to easily create an animated look to your videos, akin to Aha's "Take on Me" video of the early 1980s, but this effect is achieved by simply dragging the RotoSketch filter onto the video on your Timeline. The effect looks fantastic and is GPU optimized.

 Auto Sketch
The Auto Sketch effects enables you to turn photos and still video frames into a moving animation in which the still image is painted as it displays, like an animation sketch. You can lengthen the duration of the effect by simply stretching the still image on the Timeline for the time you want the effect to fill out the image. It is really pretty cool.

Corel has added some NewBlue FX filters into the effects library as well. NewBlue effects are compatible with most of the non-linear image editors on the market, both professional and consumer, and they run the gamut in terms of quantity and quality of effects. VideoStudio Pro X3 includes a variety of filters, including Detail Enhancer, Active Camera, Picture in Picture Animator, as well as NewBlue Sampler effects, Active Camera, Air Brush, Crop Borders, Detail Enhancement, and Water Color.

Painting Creator, a very cool feature: Double click in box above to play video

Corel has added some Smart Sound functionality into the application as well, enabling you to tweak individual instruments in a Smart Sound track. In addition, VideoStudio Pro X3 now has two audio tracks enabling you to have a separate soundtrack as well as voice over to your project

Share
Once you are finished with your video project, your final step is to share. Back in the late 1990s, your choices were fairly minimal. You could export back out to video tape, save as a computer file, and save to DVD or video CD for playback on computers and DVD players. Video playback has changed quite a bit in the last decade. In addition to the capability to save to the video types just mentioned, VideoStudio Pro X3 also offers more sharing capabilities. You can save your projects to a variety of video file formats, including HD MPEG-4 video formats, Blu Ray disc, DVD, and to the video sharing sites Vimeo and YouTube.

Sharing

These are new features that are in addition to YouTube, mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPod, and PlayStation Portable, as well as the video formats such as HDV, MPEG, DVD, AVCHD, FLV, and the like. Video sharing capabilities of the application is fairly complete in its scope. Choose any delivery mechanism and it should be supported.

First Impressions
Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 offers a lot of the same features that other video editing applications offer, as well as some unique features that set it apart from the others in its class. While the advanced editor is a powerful and fairly stable application in itself, Corel, being Corel, has added several other applications (Corel DVD Factory Pro 2010, a full blown DVD authoring solution; Corel VideoStudio Express 2010, a simplified video editor that makes quick editing jobs easier, but still gives you the capability to move your projects to the advanced editor; DV- to DVD Wizard, which lets you capture from your DV camcorder, add a template and burn directly to DVD with no editing; the NewBlue FX, and movie templates from RevoStock. That is a lot of added value. Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 is a proficient solution for the home editing enthusiast that scales with more processing power, further making the editing process more enjoyable.  www.corel.com
