iFunia Video Converter Pro for Macintosh

By John Virata

iFunia's Video Converter Pro is an application that converts your video into a wide variety of formats, including AVI, WMV, AVCHD, MKV, FLV, H.264/AVC, MP4, MOV, 3GP and DV. It is straightforward to use and the results are very good to excellent. The application works in three simple steps; Source Setup/Add, Destination Setup, and Start Conversion/Start.

1. Source Setup
This is where you choose which videos that you want to convert. iFunia supports most of the video formats available, including AVCHD .mts files and DV files. You simply select the video files that you wish to add and iFunia places them in the Source Setup window. Once the files are in the window, you can also edit or trim them, as well as merge multiple files with a shift/click on your Mac. Edit mode enables you to crop the video, edit the videos brightness and contrast, and add effects such as solarization, 3D grid, sepia, gamma, gray, invert, embossment, flip horizontally, flip vertically, threshhold, video, and halftone. You can also add a watermark (using text or an image, complete with color choice and transparency) to you videos as well.

2. Destination Setup
After you've made any changes to your clips, Destination Setup is where you choose the type of video file that you want to convert to. Your choices include iPod video, iPhone video, PlayStation Portable, PS3, Apple TV, iTunes, xBox 360, mobile phone (Blackberry, Nokia), and PMP video (Zune, iRiver, Archos, Creative Zen). You can also convert to MPEG-2, DVD MPEG-2, VOB, SuperVideo CD, Video CD, Mpeg-1, MPEG 4, and HD video formats in AVI, ASF, MOV, MPEG-4, h.264, WMV, and HD MPEG-2. Once you choose a video format, you can further adjust its parameters, including resolution, bitrate, frame rate, codec, sample rate, and channel. You then choose a destination where you want the video to be saved.

Adding a watermark

Your final step is to Start the conversion. Press the start button and the software starts to convert. Simple Stuff

The Final Word
iFunia ($35) is a great tool for converting video to a wide variety of formats. It gives you some options to add a limited number of special effects as well as text or image based watermarks or both. It outputs to a range of file formats, as well as offers support for a range of video formats, including the more popular formats, such as AVI, MOV, DV, and AVCHD. There is no support for Windows Media Center dvr-ms formats, but most other formats I tested were compatible with iFunia Video Converter Pro. For more information, visit
