Setting Up for DTS Playback on the Mac

A quick technique for previewing DTS content in DVD Studio Pro projects
2. Setting up sound with Audio MIDI Setup
Now we need to set up our audio. Go into your Utilities folder and locate an application called Audio MIDI Setup. This is at /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup.

Launch the application, and click on the "Audio Devices" button at the top of the interface. Then select the pull-down menu next to the "Properties For" option. From this menu, select "Built-in Audio."

Now, if you already have your optical cable connected to your output, the default settings probably look something like this.

But over on the Audio Output side (on the right), we need to change the two-channel setting to "Encoded Digital Audio." (Note that if your changes don't "take" after you've selected the "Encoded Digital Audio" option, you should quit all other applications that might be preventing you from making changes, such as iTunes or DVD Player.)

After you've done this, quit Audio MIDI Setup. (Changes are saved automatically.)
