Vermont Governors Conference Discusses How Parks Make Life Better

Landscape Structures Inc., a Delano, Minn.-based commercial playground manufacturer, along with its Vermont playground consultant, OBrien & Sons, Inc., is scheduled to exhibit at the 69th Vermont Governors Conference on Recreation Sept. 26-27, in Fairlee. The conference will feature Dr. John Crompton, distinguished professor of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences at Texas A&M University and well-known researcher and author, as the keynote and presenting speaker. This learning experience was made possible through the 2012-2013 State Association Speaker Scholarship program from Landscape Structures.

In keeping with the Governors Conference theme, Dr. Cromptons keynote topic will discuss how Parks Make Life Better. He will articulate how parks make life better for both park users and for members of the community who dont make much use of them. He will also present his views on repositioning. Dr. Crompton is known worldwide for his work, and his research on public recreation during difficult financial times has made a significant impact on the industry.

The 80-minute session will be presented on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 8 a.m. Prior to the keynote, delegates will have the opportunity to visit OBrien & Sons and Landscape Structures in the exhibit hall to learn about the latest trends in playground design including custom and theme designs, concrete as a playground material and creating truly inclusive play environments. The scholarship from Landscape Structures is supporting two additional presentations from Dr. Crompton on Thursday at 9:30 and 11:50 a.m. These sessions will focus on The Economic Benefits of Parks and How to Raise Prices without Making People Mad, respectively.
