PARIS, Feb. 14,2013 /PRNewswire/ --Award-winning science documentary-maker Michael Rosenfeld, Head of Television and Film at the brand new Tangled Bank Studios, will give a keynote address at MIPDoc on Saturday 6 April 2013. The leading international screening & conference event for documentary and factual programming, MIPDoc will be held in Cannes from 6-7 April, ahead of MIPTV (8-11 April).

Michael Rosenfeld is a seasoned producer, writer, and television executive with extensive experience in documentary production and new media. He is heading the newly launched Tangled Bank Studios, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's US$60 million film and television initiative, set to produce up to 10 hours of science programming annually for TV, cinemas and digital media.

In a career spanning network broadcast, cable, and public television, Rosenfeld has won or led teams that have won hundreds of industry awards, including the Peabody Award and almost 40 News & Documentary Emmy Awards. In his MIPDoc address, entitled "Reinventing Science Television," Rosenfeld will discuss how the new production company is aiming to create science films that enlighten as they entertain, and support producers who want to do the same.

Co-production and co-financing remain the central focuses, which will be supported through a series of workshops scheduled throughout the two-day event.

A major new initiative this year is the Commissioners' Meet Up, which will give creators and producers a chance to showcase more than 130 projects in progress whether they are in the early stages, in development, or actually in production. The initiative will feature leading commissioning editors including: Axel Arno, Commissioning Editor, SVT-Sveriges Television; Barbara Biemann, Commissioning Editor, ARD/NDR; Rodolphe Guignard, Head of Broadcasting, RMC Decouverte; Marijke Huijbregts, Commissioning Editor, AVRO; Ann Julienne, Head of International Development, France Televisions; Thierry Mino, Deputy Head of Documentaries & Acquisitions and International Co-Productions, France Televisions; Joon Sueck Park, Acquisitions & Sales Manager, Programming & Planning Team, KNN-Korea New Network; Laurent Sicouri, Head of Acquisitions and International Pre-Buys, Groupe Canal Plus; Tore Tomter, Programme Acquisitions, NRK; Guenaelle Troly, Director of Programming, RMC Decouverte; Mark Starowicz, Executive Director, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; Jenny Westergard, Commissioning Editor, YLE.

The MIPDoc International Pitch will feature six of the best projects registered in the MIPDoc 2013 catalogue, offering the finalists the opportunity to pitch live in front of an international panel of commissioning editors and broadcasters on the first day of MIPDoc.
