Orthopaedic Research Society: Imagining a World Without Musculoskeletal Limitations
ROSEMONT, Ill., March 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Each year, over 3,000 scientists from around the world meet to collaborate, learn and share the latest advances in musculoskeletal research. The Annual Meeting of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) has been attended for over 60 years by researchers who all have one thing in common: they are all working towards helping patients recover their mobility and enjoy improved quality of life. Although the organization's main focus has been supporting engineers, orthopedic surgeons, biologists, and clinicians in their research efforts, a new event at this year's meeting aims to share the scientific discoveries with public for the first time: ORS Open Door.
For additional information or to make reservations to attend ORS Open Door, please visit the ORS website.
"ORS Open Door is an outreach to the public to invite them to be part of the discussion and to increase awareness of recent research advances that could benefit them," explains the event Moderator, Anton Bowden. On Saturday, March 10, 11AM at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans, guests are invited to listen to presentations given by experts on subjects including osteoarthritis, low-back pain and regenerative medicine. "Attendees can look forward to dynamic talks on the latest innovations and research in these areas," says Bowden, himself a scientist who researches spinal biomechanics and medical device design. "These talks will be given by world experts in these fields, and specifically geared to the public, avoiding technical jargon in favor of clear communication. Additionally, there will be an open-microphone format panel discussion responding to questions from the audience."
Having long been a favorite meeting location for attendees, New Orleans seemed like the perfect city to host the ORS's first public outreach program. "Over the last 60 years, the ORS Annual Meeting has been held in New Orleans numerous times," explains Bowden. "We sincerely appreciate the hospitality of the people of New Orleans and hope that we can give something back by sharing our understanding of some of the recent work that could benefit them (as well as their family and friends), and providing a glimpse into new technologies that will be coming around the corner."
The ORS strives to advance musculoskeletal research worldwide.
