Narconon of Georgia Reveals New 2013 Drug Awareness Campaign

Narconon of Georgia announces is new 2013 drug awareness campaign that is part of its expanded community reach out efforts. The organization will send staff members wherever help is requested. The plan is to work with community groups, law enforcement and other agencies towards the goal of reducing drug abuse in Georgia.

Thanks to the efforts of hard working men and women from various organizations across the state, last year showed a decrease in prescription drug overdoses in Georgia. This year, I think we can do better and reduce synthetic drug abuse as well. Its not something that any organization or agency can do alone. Its a big problem that takes shoulder to shoulder effort and collaboration across many agencies and groups, said Narconon spokesperson Gordon Weinand. Mr. Weinand is a graduate of the first Narconon program and has been clean for over 44 years.

At the beginning of the month Narconon staff members presented a seminar on synthetic drug abuse to about 70 law enforcement personnel. Ji Johnson and other Narconon staff shared information about what they have learned from clients about the local availability of drugs. Its still too easy to get and far too dangerous to not do something about, said Mr. Johnson. Georgia law enforcement has done a good job of getting a lot of the synthetics out of the convenience stores and smoke shops, but it can still be bought online. Once the online orders arrive in Georgia, sales start again from different locations. The good news is that we have seen progress over the last year with a reduction of the number of points of sale for synthetics in our local area. We need to keep these statistics going in the right direction across the state.

Narconons campaign includes educational presentations to neighborhood watch groups. These groups will be made aware of the telltale signs of synthetic drug distribution in their neighborhood and how alert law enforcement. The campaign includes drug education for children in schools so they learn that synthetics are dangerous and not something they would want to try.
