Ministers to Address Future Infrastructure Development at the West Africa Infrastructure and Construction (WAIC) 2012 Summit

Ministers and key industry officials from across West Africa will come together in two weeks time for the inaugural West Africa Infrastructure and Construction (WAIC) 2012 Summit to discuss the vital infrastructure investment needed for the region.

Run by global summits organiser International Research Networks, the WAIC 2012 Summit will be held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Ghanas capital, Accra, from 16-17 October 2012. The Summit opens with a series of updates from Ministers from Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Keynote addresses will be given by:

Jean Bertin Ouedraogo, Minister of Infrastructure and Improved Access, Burkina Faso
Hon. Alimamy P. Koroma, Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Sierra Leone

The investment needs of West Africa are enormous and the lack of modern infrastructure has been a major challenge to its economic development for many years. The WAIC 2012 Summit focuses specifically on building partnerships with foreign investors, mobilising resources, civil infrastructure systems, emerging technologies, development of transport systems, raising performance of air transport infrastructure, port reconstruction, urban water demand, sewage systems and electricity upgrades across the region.

The number of international investment deals recently secured in the region come as a positive signal that change is ahead. Ghana alone has seen a US$200 million investment from China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to expand its Takoradi Port, and US$400m from US firm General Electric for the Ghana Water Rehabilitation Works, but more is needed.

Keynote speaker Jean Bertin Ouedraogo, Minister of Infrastructure and Improved Access, Burkina Faso commented, This summit is, in my opinion, a real opportunity to share experiences for the people working for the development of our countries.
