Learn How to Connect with Community Resources at Allsup True Help® Disability Web Expo

Allsup, a nationwide provider of services for people with disabilities, and the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN), a protection and advocacy group, will host a moderated chat titled, Connecting with community resources, during the Allsup True Help® Disability Web Expo.

The free, online Web Expo will be held Thursday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., CST. A presentation on True Help Connecting with Community Resources, is scheduled for 3 to 4 p.m. The moderated chat will follow the presentation from 4:05 to 4:30 p.m. All presentations will be 508 compliant for accessibility.

In order to live and thrive in a community-based setting, people with disabilities require advocacy to navigate the services that are available to them, said Patrick Wojahn, co-moderator of the chat and public policy analyst for NDRN. NDRN and the nationwide network of Client Assistance Program and Protection and Advocacy agencies help provide access to these critical resources.

Tricia Blazier, Allsups personal financial planning manager, said community resources can make all the difference to Allsup claimants. Many of our customers have a significantly reduced income due to their disability and do not know where to turn for help to meet their basic needs, such as food, prescriptions and housing, said Blazier, co-moderator. By locating community resources in their area, they can obtain help to meet these needs until they receive their Social Security Disability Insurance benefits.

More than a dozen leading nonprofit organizations and experts in health and wellness, advocacy, disease treatment and support, financial planning and disability employment will offer informational sessions and screening services, as well as answer questions. Content will be available during an on-demand period through Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Other moderated chat topics at the Web Expo include, Making the most of Medicare and Every claim is differentinsight into the Social Security Disability application process.
