Iowa Launches into First Raw Foods Week(August 21, 2012)
Des Moines, Iowa (PRWEB) August 21, 2012
Thanks to a group of local raw food advocates, Iowa launches into its very first Raw Food Week today. In response, San Diego massage therapy school locator MSSD.com has proclaimed its support of Iowa Raw Food Week, stating that it will help promote healthy living and eating within the state.
Members of Raw Food DSM, a group for raw food supporters in Des Moines, Iowa, have banded together to create Iowa Raw Food Week. Chock full of raw food events, menus, presentations and happy hours, Raw Food Week is designed to expose raw eating and raw food diets to the many Iowa locals who may be unaware of its benefits. Events for the week include a Raw Sunday Brunch at the Echo Valley Country Club, a Healthy Happy Hour at the Jasper Winery, and a dinner by Dave the Raw Food Trucker. Helping to spearhead Raw Food Week was Sheree Clark, a raw food advocate and nutrition counselor.
Raw Food DSM is a meetup.com group for citizens of Des Moines, Iowa, interested in living by or learning about raw food diets. It was started in 2007 and now has more than 650 members. The group meets regularly to listen to speakers, eat raw food meals, share recipes, see raw food preparation demonstrations, and discuss health and diet concerns.
A raw food diet consists of food in its natural form. According to Sheree Clark, the diet can include everything from vegetables and fruits to nuts and seeds, but none of it may be heated to above 105 degrees. There are also no flours, sugars, dairy, gluten or corn syrups in a raw food diet.
Iowa is a state located in the Midwest region of the United States. Boasting just over 3 million inhabitants, Iowa ranks as the 30th most populated state in the U.S. The state capital city is Des Moines, which is home to more than 500,000 people. Much of Iowas land is used for growing crops; in fact, 60 percent of state land is covered by various crops, and another 30 percent is covered by grasslands, pasture or prairie. A mere 1 percent of Iowas land consists of urban areas or water.
As MSSD.com advocates healthy living and eating, as well as massage, it has proclaimed support of Iowa Raw Food Week, stating that it will help to expand the raw food industry and the healthy living movement as a whole.
A long-standing resource to the San Diego massage education community, MassageSchoolSanDiego.com provides guidance and assistance to incoming massage students, incoming attendees, and the massage schools of San Diego themselves.
