Halloween Hats

Witches' Hats in 3D for Photoshop By Ko Maruyama
It's that time again. Time for some more 3D Photoshop files.  Here is a simple file, actually three for you to play around with.  In Photoshop CS3 Extended, you can jump into the 3D texture and modify the UV material to customize your 3D model.  Of course you can also use clipping layers to do some really simple color modification as well.

You may have seen the 3D Photoshop alphabet that I created a while back, and with the news that Adobe has put up on their Adobe CS Podcast, perhaps more of you will be looking into using the 3D features of Photoshop CS3 Extended... you may already have it in your arsenal of Adobe software - - have you looked at it?

Here's where you can find the 3D Photoshop type for CS3 Extended:
A to Z, 3D STYLE.

I was working on a Halloween hat and I figured that it might be fun to have for Photoshop CS3 Extended users.  There are three versions of the the hat.  You might be able to use it as a wizard's hat as well?  At least, you can check out how some files map the textures (sometimes strangely) against the 3D geometry in the Photoshop file.

There are some tricky bits that you might not be familiar with if you haven't worked with texturing a 3D object before. Depending on how the file geometry is created, there is some tricky pixel pushing that you might need to do.  I've tried to make the smart layer (think: Photoshop Precomp) pretty straightforward.  /download Version 1 here/

In some cases, you can see that stretching kinda works in your favor.  The second file has a little bit of a bendy point at the top, not totally crumpled yet...  /Download Version 2 here: witch_hat_3dpsd_02.psd.zip

Here's a pic of the most crumpldy version of that hat.  It's a bit different than the other two.  I think the first one turned out looking like a 3D traffic safety cone more than a witch's hat, but it only took seconds to create (3 clicks) in MAXON's CINEMA4D.  The others were tooled a little more with the magnet tool.  /Download Version 3 here: witch_hat_3dpsd_03.psd.zip

I'll have more little Halloween 3D elements for Photoshop CS3 Extended either here on Creativemac.com or in the freebies section of Ninjacrayon.com
