Future of Cinema Film Festival Now Accepting Entries

The motion picture arts program at Interlochen Center for the Arts is seeking submissions for the fifth annual Future of Cinema Film Festival (FOCFF). The festival is open to all high school students, ages 13-18 and welcomes entries in four categories: narrative, documentary, animated short films and screenplays. Filmmakers can register for the festival and submit their work through the Interlochen website. The submission deadline is September 30 and the three-day festival will take place on the campus of Interlochen Center for the Arts, from November 1-3, 2012. Entrants are encouraged to attend, but attendance is not required.

FOCFF is dedicated to high school filmmakers who have a passion for cinema. The fifth annual Future of Cinema Film Festival will screen the best work of high school students from around the world and provide opportunities to connect with professional filmmakers. Participants will discuss trends and new developments in cinema and develop a better understanding of a quickly evolving art form.

Since the festival began five years ago, guest artists have been a highlight of the event.
Past special guests have included: Michael Moore, Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker; Dennis Muren, Academy Award-winning special effects artist; Cory McAbee, writer, actor and director of films including The American Astronaut; Jeff Wozniak, senior digital artist at Lucas Films; Gordon Radley, former president of ILM; Ken Burns, documentary filmmaker; Ivan Raimi, screenwriter for Darkman, Army of Darkness, Spiderman 3; and many others. FOCFF offers generous prizes to select participants. Exhibiting student filmmakers receive a $500 scholarship to the motion picture arts program at Interlochen Arts Camp for summer 2013, and each category winner receives an iPod touch and a $2,000 scholarship to the summer program. The Best of Fest winner walks away with a MacBook Pro as well as one half-tuition scholarship to Interlochen Arts Academy for the 2013-14 school year. Both the Best of Fest winner and the Best of Fest runner-up receive one half-tuition scholarship to Interlochen Arts Camp. Applicants must meet admission requirements to be eligible for Camp or Academy scholarships.

The Future of Cinema Festival is presented by the motion picture arts program at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Students in the motion picture arts program study the fundamental components of screenwriting and production in the most advanced facilities available to high school students. Programs for filmmakers are offered during the summer at Interlochen Arts Camp and during the school year at Interlochen Arts Academy, a fine arts boarding high school.
