Fashion Students from Design School FIDM Share New Valentines Day Trend

  (February 08, 2013)

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 08, 2013

With Valentines Day less than a month away, busy students at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandisings downtown Los Angeles campus are mostly dateless. The trend towards college students hanging in groups rather than pairing off in traditional twosomes is redefining that traditional romantic evening for two into a looser gathering of friendsor a quiet evening at home with chocolate.

Here is how a few will spend Valentines 2013:

Ill be hanging out at home with my girlfriends, in sweat pants having an I Hate Valentines Day celebration, reports Fashion Design major Zahira, with a giggle.

A philosophical Bella, also a Fashion Design major, prefers to fly solo. Ill go to bed early, with a good box of dark chocolate by my side and a great chick-flick on the screen. Shes thinking the star-studded Garry Marshall movie Valentines Day, where the idea for an anti-Valentines celebration was hatched.

For those who prefer to leave the house for their romantic comedy fix, the new Warm Bodies, starring hot guy Nicholas Hoult, his adorable British accent, and a flock of zombies sounds like this years go-to Valentines movie for girls in groups.

Merchandise Marketing student Bridgette plans on skipping the movies and rounding up ten of her FIDM classmates for a festive dinner out in Hollywood to celebrate their dateless status. Her friend Rebecca will buy herself a dress for the occasion, as she does every Valentines Day. Shes got her eye on a lacey, pink frock she saw on the Nordstroms website this year.

At a fashion college with majors that focus on retail like Merchandise Marketing and Apparel Industry Management, some students will be improving their resumes and earning cash by working retail on that special day. Graphic Design major Jose, who just landed a sales job at Top Shop at the Grove through the FIDM Career Center, will be working the new stores opening night party and fashion show before turning in for the night.

After work, Ill light some candles, sip some wine, and plan on booking a date in advance for next year, says Jose. Disneyland would be the perfect place to spend the day.

With four dynamic California campuses, FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is the premier west coast fashion design college, educating for careers in fashion, graphic design, interior design, and entertainment. FIDMs graduates include renowned designers like Monique Lhuillier, Emmy and Academy Award-winning costume designers, top fashion industry executives, and entrepreneurs.
