Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel to Speak at Special Plastic Surgery Reception

The Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center will be hosting a special event on November 1st, 2012 which will explore some of the most recent developments in cosmetic medicine and surgery. The event will include discussions on current trends and new options in surgical procedures such as face lifts, breast augmentation, and buttock augmentation as well as non-surgical treatments such as laser resurfacing, fillers, and injectables.

The event, titled "The Top 10 Plastic Surgery Breakthroughs" will be held on Thursday, November 1st at the UT Southwestern Medical Center's Outpatient Building from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm and is open to the public.

The reception will be led by Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel and Dr. Rod Rohrich and will feature presentations on current topics in cosmetic surgery with question and answer sessions. Participants will then be able to break into smaller groups and speak informally with plastic surgeons on more specific topics. Fourteen plastic surgeons will participate with a wide range of experience in all aspects of plastic surgery.

Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel, vice chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery, views the reception as an opportunity to initiate open and honest conversation about current advances in cosmetic medicine and surgery, topics that can often be obscured by marketing and advertising hype.

"Options for non-surgical and surgical cosmetic procedures are growing rapidly," explains Dr. Kenkel, "Events such as this really help us communicate facts and objective data about the procedures in an unfiltered way." As teachers and researchers, Dr. Kenkel and his colleagues often see new treatments and new products years before they are made available to the public, making them distinctively positioned to evaluate their efficacy.

Some patients are nervous about making a consultation with a plastic surgeon. This event allows an easy transition so that patients can learn about the options they have and ask questions before they commit to a consultation.

This event is part of a series held several times a year in which the UT Southwestern plastic surgery faculty share information on the latest surgery options and non-invasive treatments in plastic surgery while addressing myths and misconceptions about cosmetic treatments.

Jeffrey M. Kenkel, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a plastic surgeon in Dallas, Texas. He is immediate past president of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and professor and vice chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He is director of the Clinical Center for Cosmetic Laser Treatment and medical director for the Department of Plastic Surgery, UT Southwestern Medical Center. His clinical practice is located at the Outpatient Building on the campus of UT Southwestern.

Dr. Kenkel is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face and body. He balances his surgical practice with non-surgical cosmetic medicine including the use of injectables, lasers, and skin care. Dr. Kenkel is nationally and internationally known for his contributions in cosmetic surgery.
