Central Coast Candidates Speak Out About Agriculture, Immigration & Other Issues of Importance to Area Latinos
(October 29, 2012)Watsonville, CA (PRWEB) October 29, 2012
Univision/Entravision and the California Strawberry Commission today unveiled a non-partisan online video forum to help Central Coast voters learn more about their candidates positions on issues important to the local Latino community, both organizations announced today.
As a free public service, candidates for Congress and state legislative districts from Santa Cruz to Ventura counties were invited to record a short video presenting their positions on the local economy, education, immigration and agriculture. The videos are viewable in both English and Spanish at Univision/Entravision (http://www.kpmrtv.com/canal/candidatos.html).
These forums are the result of an ongoing partnership that brings together strawberry farming the regional economys greatest employer with Univision/Entravision, the largest Spanish language network in the United States and California, said George Ray, national political director for Entravision and Univision Central Coast and Univision Monterey/Salinas.
This partnership is a natural because strawberries represent the most important agricultural crop along the Central Coast, said Ray. About 65 percent of all strawberry farmers are Latino, and strawberry operations create an estimated 70,000 jobs, the majority of which are held by Latinos, who represent our audience.
The strawberry commission said the effort is important because it helps underscore the essential role agriculture plays in the local community.
We appreciate Univision and Entravisions desire to partner with us by providing a powerful and innovative approach to helping break down barriers between candidates and voters in advance of the election, said Mark Murai, the commissions president. This public service is especially important along the Central Coast where it is important for candidates to let voters know exactly where they stand on issues relevant to their communities.
Candidates received questions in advance and their responses were not edited for content.
In a related announcement, Univision- Central Coast today said it will be hosting a community forum with Abel Maldonado and Congresswoman Lois Capps today Santa Barbara.
