Adjusting Material Parameters in 3DS Max

Part 4 in our series of video excerpts from the 3DS Max 9 Essential Training Course By Chad Perkins

Covering the fundamentals of rendering, animation, and modeling, instructor Chad Perkins demonstrates how to push the limits of 3DS Max 9 for stunning effects.

He starts with the application's basics, then goes on to discuss many of the key features of 3DS Max 9, as well as important principles of animation. In this series he will teach you about creating and editing mesh, modifiers, architectural modeling, texture mapping, keyframe animation, rigging, basic kinematics, and much more.

In part 4 Chad shows how to change an object surface and material parameters in 3DS Max 9. From setting basic color (hue and saturation), the differences between Diffuse and Ambient colors, using self-illumination and opacity.

He also discusses issues with Normals, a characteristic of polygons that can cause rendering issues in 3DS Max. These Normals are the back side of a single sided polygon, and they render as transparent on an object. He discusses a method fixing this issue using materials to make a polygon 2 sided instead on single sided.
