MANCHESTER, England (Nov. 08, 2001) -- Engie Benjy, the boy with the blue hair, is the star of a new 26-episode animated series from Cosgrove Hall, one of largest animation facilities in Europe.

The 10-minute episodes have been brought to life using a mixture of CGI and stop-motion animation. Engie Benjy's cohorts include the engine doctor and his team, Dan the Van and Jollop the dog. Together the trio of engine menders turn the adult/child relationship upside down by helping all sorts of characters, from bossy Dottie the Bus driver, cry baby Pilot Pete to mumbling Farmer Fred and nutty Fisherman Fin. Engie’s world is imbued with a child’s logic and imagination. Planes creep out to have parties at night. Buses get tired and need holidays. Woodland trees leap into the sky to play with Space Ship and Farmer Fred’s fruity fizz cloud waters the ice-lolly fields every day. Having the opportunity to bring characters to life is a great fun and it’s always exciting to see them develop, however with Engie Benjy I think the word has to be "unique" -- it has exceeded even my expectations and I can’t wait for his introduction to the nation in 2002."

Cosgrove Hall Films Managing Director Iain Pelling comments, "Engie Benjy has already proved a massive hit at Mipcom and that was just the brochure! It’s without doubt a stunning piece of children’s animation with huge merchandise and licensing possibilities but above all it’s great to watch even for the ‘big kids’!"Engie is coming in 2002 to Britain's CiTV, where there are high hopes for his success. Janie Grace, Controller of Children’s and Youth programming for ITV comments, "I am delighted to welcome Engie Benjy to CiTV. Cosgrove Hall are highly regarded as one of the UK’s top animation studios -- especially in stop motion. We have high hopes that their latest creation will be a huge hit with the kids."

Cosgrove Hall Films produce all three types of animation (Drawn/2d, Stop-Motion, CGI). Created by Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall, the company is presently celebrating its Silver Anniversary, with over 25 years of leadership in the international animation field. With a stable that ranges from Dangermouse and Chorlton and the Wheelies to the more recent Foxbusters and Bill & Ben, Cosgrove Hall Films has received numerous awards, including six BAFTAs and two International Emmys.
